Robot Football
My domain needed a coming-soon page. I made it a game: a floodlit stadium where Deploy FC play Loading Utd, and you pick a side and play.
Status: Live as the coming-soon page for kunalvarshney.com. One HTML file and one 3D model.
Problem
A coming-soon page is usually a logo and a date. I wanted one people would stay on and send to a friend, without it costing much to load.
What I built
- A 4-a-side match with passing, shooting, tackles and keepers
- Ball physics with posts, crossbar and nets
- Free roam with a third-person camera
- Touch controls for phones
Current state
- Live on the domain
- Sunset sky, floodlights, about 1,000 fans
- Loads behind a small animated robot
My role
Concept, game logic and the look. The robots wear kits with names and numbers, and the sidelines are full of jokes about building software: a coder punching his laptop, an overthinker under his own rain cloud.
Why this matters for hire
It shows the parts of front-end work that are hard to fake: a game loop, camera control, input from mouse, keyboard and touch, and performance on a phone.
Stack and process
three.js with a free CC0 robot model, skeletal animation and crossfades, a Sky shader with environment lighting, and instanced meshes for the crowd. Tested with scripted key presses in a browser before each release.
