Daftar — The Office · دفتر

A civic web product that makes government work simpler for people across India’s 36 States & UTs — plain language, place-first navigation, and multilingual framing (English / हिंदी / اردو).

Daftar — The Office demo homepage

Status: Public demo on GitHub Pages — not a production government launch. Features and content are still evolving.

Problem

Government information is scattered, jargon-heavy, and hard to start from “where I live.” People need a calm entry point — find my place — before forms and portals.

What this site is

  • Hero: “Government work, made simple”
  • Find my place + pick on map
  • Stats for States & UTs coverage
  • Language + theme controls
  • Bharat · भारत · بھارت branding

Current state

  • Clickable demo UX on GitHub Pages
  • Place / map flows under active build
  • Honest WIP — designed to show direction

What Daftar is about

Daftar (दफ़्तर / دفتر) means “the office” — the desk where official work happens. The product idea is to treat civic tasks like something a person can approach without already knowing which department owns what.

The demo is aimed at people who need Aadhaar, ration, police, land, school, or a State website — and need the right door in plain words. Instead of dumping a directory of schemes and PDFs, it leads with orientation: where are you? Find my place, pick on a map of India, or browse States & UTs. From there the interface can narrow down what matters for that place.

My role

Concept, information architecture, visual design, and front-end build. I own the civic framing, the place-first UX, and the multilingual presentation. Iteration is AI-assisted (Claude / Cursor) with human review on clarity, mobile behaviour, and whether the copy still sounds like a person talking — not a portal template.

Why this matters for hire

This is not a client go-live yet — it’s a product sketch you can click. It shows I can take a complex domain (government / civic UX), reduce it to a clear first action, and ship a demo people can judge. The same honesty applies to other WIP builds on this portfolio: demos are labelled as demos; Padma Lights is the live operator site.

Stack & process

Front-end web app on GitHub Pages. Mobile-first design, plain-language content, and progressive enhancement. Work continues on map/place data depth and content structure before any claim of production readiness.
